Teeth Whitening in Edmonton
What is Professional Teeth Whitening?
Our teeth naturally darken as we age. Factors such as drinking coffee and wine, smoking, and poor dental hygiene only exacerbate the process.
If you're looking to have a whiter smile, professional teeth whitening may be the option for you. Teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile. The process is simple and non-invasive, targeting the colour of your teeth by removing stains with a peroxide-based gel solution.
At Westmount Dental Centre, our teeth whitening options are designed to help you reach your smile goals in a way that suits your unique lifestyle.
Treatment Options To Suit Your Needs
Whiten Your Teeth Your Way
Our goal is to help you achieve the smile you've always wanted. That's why we offer two treatment options: in-office treatment with our dental team or a personalized process you can do at home.
What are the Benefits of Teeth Whitening?
When you meet someone new, your smile is often the first thing they will notice about you. A whiter smile can boost your confidence and self-esteem, making that first meeting memorable.
How Teeth Whitening Works
Our dentists use a peroxide-based gel in teeth whitening treatments. This gel is designed to break down stain molecules and get rid of them. This can result in a brighter-looking smile. The peroxide gel is non-toxic, non-allergenic, and very safe to use.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
If you're receiving in-office teeth whitening, your dentist will begin by applying a protective barrier around your gums. Then, a thin layer of whitening gel will be applied to each tooth. Upon successful completion of your treatment, your teeth should appear visibly whiter.
Personalized Take-Home Teeth Whitening
If you choose to whiten your teeth at home, your dentist will begin the process by taking an impression of your mouth so that your custom whitening trays can be created. When you're ready to begin treatment at home, you will apply the supplied whitening gel to the trays and wear them according to the directions for use. You should notice your teeth appear lighter at the end of this treatment.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
Read the answers to our most frequently asked questions about teeth whitening at Westmount Dental Centre.
-
How long do the effects of teeth whitening last?
Whitening is not permanent and can be affected by beverages such as coffee and wine. Certain foods, like those that contain turmeric, can also stain your teeth.
Depending on diet, the effects of whitening may last longer for some people than others.
-
Does insurance cover the cost of teeth whitening?
Dental insurance does not typically cover the cost of teeth whitening.
-
Does teeth whitening make teeth more sensitive?
One short-term side effect of teeth whitening may be increased sensitivity.
Most patients report that the added sensitivity fades away within a few days of their whitening session.
To minimize discomfort, we recommend using an anti-sensitivity toothpaste before treatment and for at least two weeks afterwards.
-
Do teeth whitening products work on all stains?
Brown and yellow-coloured stains typically respond best to teeth whitening treatments.
However, there are some stains that do not respond to whitening treatments at all.
If having a whiter smile is important to you but your teeth have non-responsive stains, your dentist may recommend other cosmetic or restorative treatments, such as dental crowns or veneers, to improve the appearance of your smile.
-
Does teeth whitening work on dental restorations?
Unfortunately, teeth whitening only works on natural teeth and will not work on dental restorations.
If crowns or veneers are part of your treatment plan, teeth whitening should occur before you receive dental restorations.
-
Will teeth whitening damage my tooth enamel?
When used under the supervision of a qualified dentist, teeth whitening is unlikely to damage your dental enamel.
Always consult with your dentist to ensure you are using any teeth whitening products safely.
